You have no expertise in anything but flapping your stupid Irish gums, yet you think you are qualified to discuss the Fairness Doctrine with a U.S. Representative and Presidential candidate? Or arguing with with a climatologist on global warming, which, unless they taught earth science at bartending school, I don't think that you are qualified to do. Dear Mr. Hannity
I am a catholic, university educated, 50 something "white collar" professional. I have been a registered independent for years. I am not a member of the radical left; I am essentially a centrist. For years I was a regular viewer of Fox News. I think it is important for you to consider the following, for it is true, and I believe should be taken seriously given your political philosophy and –more importantly- your occupation:
For some time I have been undecided concerning the 2008 Presidential election. What has finally tipped the scale and decided my vote for Mr. Obama has been the election coverage of Fox News in general, and your representations within Hannity and Colmes in particular. I trust this message will carry neither the ad nauseam hyperbole, pretzel logic, nor the maniacal froth that frames your broadcast position. Over the years, I have learned that some circumstances, situations, and –in particular- people subtly suggest that a contrarian path is the correct choice. You are one of those people, save that the suggestion is not all that subtle.
Furthermore, and to a great extent, this Reagan admirer is experiencing the evaporation of what remains of his GOP appreciation by your intolerable and visceral vehemence.
You and your networks’ clanging, obsessive diminution of Mr. Obama in the mind of this viewer served only to reinforce my decision, and made me rather curious as to how you are going to reconcile one simple fact; a fact which apparently runs completely contrary to the ever growing angst in your system: All of America will soon be presided by “President Obama”. Close your eyes, Sean. Repeat slowly to yourself: "PRESIDENT OBAMA". Maybe a filibuster-proof Congress. CAN YOU HANDLE IT YOU THINLY DISGUISED GOP WHORE?
One imagines that such an occurrence in the democracy occasionally (and foolishly) referred to as “Hannity’s America” is not possible. But the contrary is becoming overwhelmingly obvious.
Why?
Simply because it is becoming increasingly clear that a majority of the voters in ‘America’s America’ prefer Obama. Some are predicting a landslide. Count me among them. This echo of the recent GOP’s loss of Congress is not imaginary. It is related and is functionally real. The GOP is ill. YOU are ill.
My sense is that in your illness you will rationalize these truths, and keep alive the demagogue-like spirit of denial which quite obviously completely consumes you.
In closing, may I restate that you, sir, have actually tipped my vote to be cast in the direction of the candidate you so emotionally, irrationally and vehemently attack?
P.S. The mere appearance of Mr. Rove on your program as a political analyst (given that he has willfully ignored a Congressional Subpoena, and is currently under investigation by the Attorney General’s Office for his role in State Attorneys General affairs) is repugnant to many. In Hannity’s America, guests who skirt, or are under investigation into potentially criminal activity are apparently considered honored guests on your program. C’mon now, Sean: are you serious?
Finally, one hopes to see the likes of a genuine intellect such as George Will on your program, rather than the incessant partisan, pseudo-intellectual, now-come blathering of Mr. Rove and the perpetual presence of the former Speaker Of The House.
And toss the pen already Sean. Even Independents are now starting to joke where on your anatomy a pen-holder might be derived.
Only in America can an ignorant college drop out possessing an indifferent attitude towards wisdom and a clearly jingoistic –if not bigoted- world view become a talk-show celebrity. Hooray.
